New Opportunities for Industry Matching between Kyushu and Taiwan

On September 9, 2025, the business matching conference for Taiwan–Kyushu (Japan) Electronics and Semiconductor Equipment Industry was successfully held in Taipei, bringing together key representatives from the industrial, governmental, and academic sectors of both Taiwan and Japan. The event focused on fostering cross-border collaboration within the electronics and semiconductor equipment industries. Through a series of one-on-one business matching sessions, participants explored practical ways to strengthen partnerships across the upstream and downstream segments of the industry supply chain.

Overview of Kyushu’s Semiconductor Industry Cluster

Kyushu, traditionally known as "Silicon Island," hosts over 800 semiconductor-related companies, forming a comprehensive supply chain that spans design, manufacturing, packaging & testing, materials, and equipment. As global semiconductor supply chains evolve and demand for AI, high-performance computing, and automotive electronics surges, Kyushu has become a strategic hub for Japan’s international collaboration. Given Taiwan's world-leading position in advanced process technology and manufacturing capabilities, which complement Kyushu’s ecosystem, this partnership is strategically significant.

Key Discussions and Future Directions

During the conference, delegates from Taiwan and Japan engaged in in-depth discussions on materials and equipment, process innovation, components, and packaging & testing. Beyond short-term business opportunities, the forum highlighted long-term potential: building more resilient and sustainable collaboration models amid geopolitical and supply chain uncertainties. Both sides also explored emerging opportunities in electric vehicles, smart manufacturing, and sustainable development, paving the way for future cross-border innovation.

Strategic Alliances and Co-Creation in the Industry

The Taiwan–Japan partnership is evolving from traditional technology exchanges and contract manufacturing to strategic alliances and industrial co-creation. Leveraging Kyushu’s strong industrial ecosystem and Taiwan’s global market influence, the two regions are poised to establish a new model of cross-border collaboration within the semiconductor supply chain.

📌 Our Perspective:

This forum represents more than a single event—it reflects the ongoing deepening of Taiwan–Japan industrial cooperation. As global competition intensifies and supply chain restructuring accelerates, leveraging regional strengths and building long-term partnership frameworks will be key to shaping a new era for the Taiwan–Japan semiconductor industry.
